Built as part of a set of three on the 21st September 2025 (drum #641) from a beautiful old Tasmanian Oak (Eucalyptus obliqua) office desk, this once remarkable piece of furniture which has now been re-purposed into even more remarkable musical instruments that many will now get to enjoy as functional art. The heavy fiddleback ripple is very unusual to this timber, let alone with the amazing aged burnt colouring. This timber is seasoned, matured and aesthetically full of unique character. Tassie Oak is approx. 700kg/m3 and is considered a medium hard timber.
Buy this drum for a woody, warm, yet throaty, meaty tone. Like all our smaller diameter drums, they tune easily with great versatility across low to high frequencies due to reduced and more controlled movement of harmonics produced inside the shell. Expect a pure clean controlled tone balanced with the perfect amount of musical ping and snare crispness.
The customer who bought the 14 inch snare in this trio told us in his exact words “What a drum! It’s SO warm and fat. This drum is nuts! Incredible drum! I love it. I became Steve Jordan for a few seconds there! I’ve just given my 20yo daughter a demo of it and she said how much fuller your drum sounded over my [x2 significant other Australian brands] snares.”
Also expect our standard National model features:
Our original stave shell design, with integrated reinforcement rings.
Our round bearing edges, more timber contact equals more tone.
Our snare beds, optimum shell pop versus wire crispness.
Signed and dated birth certificate inside.
Limited lifetime warranty.
Chrome plated hardware.
2.3mm triple flange hoops.
Black nylon washers on tension rods
Black interior Unbrako screws and washers.
Chunky tube lugs.
Dunnett R5 R-Class snare strainer, with its new anti-release tension knob.
