Built on the 18th April 2025 (drum #630), this hybrid shell features a stunning external layer of Gippsland harvested Wormy Chestnut (Eucalyptus obliqua/sieberi/fastigata; a combination of several Eucalypt species including Messmate) over recycled Jarrah internals. The recycled jarrah was sourced from the 100 year old deck of an old regional home in Tonimbuk, VIC. Set off with brass hardware, the unique rustic aesthetic of the Wormy Chestnut’s bold black squiggly markings (created by the Ambrosia beetle that weaved its tracks through the tree) is contrasted by the purple red hues of the Jarrah. It is the jarrah which contributes most prominently to the tone of the drum. Its density is approx. 820kg/m3 and is considered a hard timber.

Purchase this drum for mid to high range tunings, it is meaty, full and round in tone across all tunings. Tuned at its lowest, this snare can produce a resonant punch with a wet ‘boosh’ note. As the drum is tuned up, it retains great body with the addition of a smooth attack, throaty clarity, and musical ping.
